Collection
Number of herbarium vouchers:
The collection of vascular plants currently consists of over 600,000 sheets incorporated into the main collection and about 150,000 sheets prepared for incorporation or requiring study; bryophytes (mosses and liverworts) are represented by about 30,000 specimens; lichens number more than 100,000 specimens; fungi and slime molds over 50,000 specimens, and fossil plants include over 15,000 allegates. In addition, a collection of fruits and cones with over 1000 specimens and over 4000 specimens of algae are deposited here. About 50,000 vouchers of fossil plants were transferred from the Herbarium of the Institute of Botany to the Center for Natural Sciences Education of the Jagiellonian University.
In total, about 1,000,000 specimens are stored in the herbarium.
